Child Education Calculator
Education costs in India have historically outpaced general inflation. This uses a higher, education-specific inflation assumption instead of borrowing a generic number from a SIP calculator.
Plan for the cost
What costs ₹25,00,000 today is projected at ₹76,64,512 in 13 years, at 9% education inflation.
Why education needs its own inflation rate
General CPI inflation in India has typically run in the 4–6% range, but tuition, hostel, and related costs at top institutions — especially professional and overseas programs — have often risen faster, commonly cited in the 8–12% range depending on the institution and program. Using headline CPI for an education goal tends to understate the real target.
This calculator uses the same inflate-then-solve approach as the goal-based SIP calculator: it grows today's cost forward using your education-specific inflation rate, then works out the flat monthly SIP required to reach that inflated number by the time your child needs it.
One planning nuance specific to this goal: the horizon shortens every year (a 5-year-old 10 years from college is a very different plan than a 15-year-old 3 years out), which usually means shifting the underlying allocation from equity-heavy toward debt as the goal date approaches — the same principle covered in our asset allocation guide.
